Senior KG
What Is the Senior KG Programme ?
The London Kids Senior KG programme is designed for children aged 5–6 years and supports the transition from preschool to primary school. It combines structured, teacher-guided learning with practical activities, purposeful play and guided exploration, allowing children to strengthen important concepts without losing curiosity and enjoyment. Stories, conversations, phonics activities, creative work, games and classroom projects encourage children to participate, ask questions and apply what they learn.
Children develop early literacy and numeracy through sound recognition, word building, picture reading, sentence practice, counting, number relationships, patterns, comparisons and simple problem-solving. Drawing, writing-readiness activities, puzzles and hands-on materials support concentration, coordination and logical thinking.
The programme also develops communication, independence, cooperation, confidence and responsibility through group tasks and familiar classroom routines. Teachers observe each child’s progress and provide suitable support. By balancing structured practice with play and exploration, Senior KG helps children build strong foundational skills and approach primary school with confidence and readiness.
Learning Through Experience
How Senior KG Children Learn
In Senior KG, children aged 5–6 years practise early reading, writing and maths through stories, games and projects. Teachers encourage them to explain ideas, solve simple problems, work with classmates and take small classroom responsibilities. This helps them feel ready for primary school.
Language & Early Reading
Children connect letters with sounds, read familiar words with support and talk about stories. They build vocabulary by describing characters, events and their own ideas.
Numbers & Reasoning
Counting, comparing quantities and making patterns help children use early maths. Simple puzzles and everyday examples give them practice in explaining their answers.
Writing & Expression
Children practise forming letters and numbers, drawing details and completing short writing tasks. Teachers support pencil grip and hand control while each child progresses at their own pace.
Projects & School Readiness
Projects, classroom jobs and group games help children listen, follow instructions, share materials and finish tasks. These experiences support a comfortable move to primary school.
Growing with Confidence
Understanding Senior KG Progress and Preparing for Primary School
Understanding Progress
In the London Kids Senior KG programme for children aged 5–6 years, teachers observe children during reading, writing, number games, projects and daily classroom activities. They notice how a child recognises sounds and familiar words, forms letters, counts and compares objects, identifies patterns and explains an answer. Teachers also observe how children share ideas, listen to classmates, follow directions, work with others and manage everyday responsibilities. Looking at progress across different activities helps teachers recognise each child’s strengths and provide practice where it is needed. London Kids Child Growth Reports help parents understand their child’s learning and overall development as primary school approaches.
Preparing for Primary School
Senior KG gives children regular practice with skills they will use in primary school. Stories and early reading activities help them recognise familiar words and understand simple sentences. Writing activities, number games and hands-on projects let children practise forming letters and numbers, counting, solving problems and explaining their thinking. Group work encourages them to ask questions, take turns and work with others. Classroom routines help children follow instructions, finish manageable tasks and organise their belongings. These age-appropriate experiences support growing independence and help children feel more comfortable with the move to primary school.
Junior KG at London Kids
Why Play Group
What Is the Junior KG Programme?
The London Kids Junior KG programme is designed for children aged 4–5 years. It builds on Nursery experiences by combining purposeful play with gradually structured, teacher-guided learning. Stories, rhymes, conversations, art, movement, games and hands-on activities keep children engaged while helping them understand classroom routines and participate with growing independence.
Children begin developing early literacy and numeracy through age-appropriate activities such as listening for sounds, recognising letters, building vocabulary, tracing patterns, counting objects, comparing quantities, sorting and solving simple puzzles. Practical experiences help children connect new ideas with everyday life rather than learning through memorisation alone.
The programme also supports communication, fine and gross motor skills, creativity, cooperation and emotional confidence. Teachers observe each child’s participation and provide support according to their learning pace. By balancing play, exploration and structured practice, Junior KG helps children strengthen foundational skills and become more confident, curious and prepared for Senior KG.
